Dalmas Tiampati was born and raised in the vast, open plains of Maasailand, where life followed the rhythms of nature and tradition. His childhood was deeply rooted in the ways of his people—herding livestock, learning the wisdom of elders, and witnessing both the beauty and struggles of a pastoral way of life.
Life in rural Maasai lands was not easy. Education was a privilege, and many children, including Dalmas, had to walk long distances to school. The land was beginning to change, and the Maasai people were facing longer cycles of drought, scarce pastures, and struggles with maintaining livestock.
Dalmas pursued education with dedication, eventually earning a Master’s degree from Moi University. However, he quickly realized that formal education alone was not enough—practical, community-driven solutions were necessary. He underwent specialized training in holistic management, permaculture design, and social entrepreneurship to develop a deep understanding of regenerative practices.
In 2013, Dalmas founded the Maasai Center for Regenerative Pastoralism, an initiative to restore degraded rangelands and improve livestock resilience. It was a bridge between Maasai traditional knowledge and modern ecological restoration techniques.
After several years working in urban areas, Dalmas realized the solutions his people needed were not in distant offices but within their land and traditions. In 2016, he made a life-changing decision to leave city life and focus on finding practical solutions for his community’s challenges, blending regenerative practices with Maasai traditions.
Dalmas’ vision for change evolved when he learned about the Doughnut Economy, a model that balances human well-being with environmental sustainability. The concept resonated deeply with him, as the Maasai way of life already embraced balance with nature. He saw the Doughnut Economy as a modern framework to enhance the Maasai’s ancient practices.
Inspired by the Doughnut Economy, Dalmas founded Maasai Doughnut Village—a community-driven movement to empower the Maasai through regenerative agriculture, education, climate action, and economic innovation. The village would embody Maasai values of environmental stewardship, prosperity, and sustainable development.
Dalmas’ ultimate goal through Maasai Doughnut Village is to inspire a new generation of Maasai who can thrive in harmony with their land and traditions. His vision includes accessible education for all Maasai children, land restoration through regenerative practices, and economic empowerment through sustainable means.
Dalmas' journey is a powerful testament to resilience, vision, and the power of blending tradition with innovation. The seeds of change have been planted, and with the spirit of the Maasai people, they will grow into something extraordinary.
